Support Training, Advice and Resources (STAR) :

Maple Ridge is one of a number of Hampshire Schools accredited by the Local Education Authorities (LEA) to provide 'Outreach' service to mainstream schools and has developed a new service called STAR (Support Training, Advice and Resources). This includes providing advice to mainstream schools in relation to the inclusion of individual pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), visits by other schools to Maple Ridge to observe good practice and a team from Maple Ridge delivering training to other schools. This training includes a problem solving group that meets monthly and a half termly training day delivered at Maple Ridge to include observation of practice.
We also offer outreach for mainstream pre-schools and Nurseries to support children with social communication or interaction difficulties. We will shortly be setting up a parent/child support group for these pre-school children in collaboration with the Basingstoke Portage Service.
The school offers a home school service. This is to support parents/carers and families of youngsters who have complex learning difficulties and behaviours that can be difficult to manage. It aims to involve everyone who works with the young person, wherever they may be : at home, in school or any other setting.

School Home Integrated Project (SHIP)

Our Year 6 children spend a week in the Spring term at Fairthorne Manor, (see gallery for photos)
Fairthorne is run by the YMCA charity (Charity Number: 1090981 Company Number: 4336719)
Fairthorne Manor is an area of parkland and woodlands in Hampshire, England, near the village of Botley. It has an area of 111 acres, including a golf course. Fairthorne Manor is primarily a children's outdoors activity centre, and offers a variety of activities including kayaking, canoeing, sailing, abseiling, climbing, archery, aerial runway and raft-building. By far the main income of Fairthorne comes from the summer camps, when thousands of children come in from the surrounding area to talk part in the activities on offer. The children coming to Summer Camp are split into 4 main age-groups - Holiday Club (5 to 8 year olds), Activity Club (8-12 year olds, Adventure Club (12-14 year olds) and the self-explanatory Club 14-16. Fairthorne also provides a nursery for the under 5s. In 2004 a new structure was introduced into the Fairthorne grounds, a 30-foot tall tower with an abseiling ramp (adapted for use by wheelchairs), a climbing wall and a low ropes course. The manor itself is the administration hub of the site.

How can I be more involved as a parent ? :

We hope that all parents of children at Maple Ridge will become involved in the life and work of the school.
This can happen by accompanying classes on school trips or being involved with the Friends of Maple Ridge see Events Dairy.
Many parents are regular visitors to the school and we regard all parents as co-workers with the school staff in the education of their children.
We hope you will talk to your child positively about school, take an interest in the homework and regularly read with and to your child.
